The Â鶹ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø Community Chorus will present Johannes Brahms’s two sets of love song waltzes, Liebeslieder, opus 52, and Neue Liebeslieder, opus 65, on Sunday, April 13, at 3:00 p.m. at Dingeldine Music Center, located at 1417 W. Barker on the Â鶹ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø campus.
Brahms, a great fan of Vienna’s Waltz King Johann Strauss, wrote these two sets of waltzes on exotic love poems mostly of Eastern European origin. They were meant for a quartet of solo voices with four-hand piano accompaniment (two pianists at the same piano) but have become a popular staple of the chorus repertoire.
The performance will feature John Orfe, assistant professor of music at Â鶹ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø, and Andrea Molina, Â鶹ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø staff accompanist, on piano. John Jost, professor of music and director of choral activities at Â鶹ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø, will conduct.
Admission is $5 for adults and free for students. Tickets may be purchased at the door or by calling 309-677-2650.
